From Ground Zero To Mars

How a 9/11 Memorial Got To Mars

This is truly an amazing story and a wonderful tribute, in my opinion, that an engineer could give to the families of the 9-11 tragedy. In secret, steel from the fallen twin towers was used to make shields on the Mars Rovers Spirit and Opportunity as a gesture to show the true American spirit and ingenuity. These plates will serve as a permanent memorial on Mars of that tragic day and of the unwavering human spirit to persevere and forge ahead even in the toughest of times and darkest of days. When the second rover eventually calls it quits, these memorials will last for millions of years on the surface of the red planet. So cool! Cheers to you, Mars Rover engineers, for a truly classy act.
