First Views of Vesta

First Views of Vesta From Orbit

The NASA probe Dawn has successfully achieved orbit around one of the larger asteroids in the asteroid belt and apparently is the brightest object in the belt.

"We are beginning the study of arguably the oldest extant primordial surface in the solar system,"

These photos are so impressive. You can let your mind imagine what the early solar system must have looked like with asteroids like this clumping together and bringing the planets into view, and perhaps delivering the buildings blocks for life on earth... Dawn will orbit for a year and then head off to Ceres, the largest body in the asteroid belt.
